Aeron vs Embody — Herman Miller's two flagships compared

Both are flagship Herman Miller. Both cost £1,400+ new. Both hold their value extraordinarily well in the UK secondary market. So which one should you keep, which should you sell, and what makes them different?

Two different design philosophies

The Aeron is a mesh-back ergonomic chair — Pellicle suspension front, back and seat. The pellicle adapts to your body shape passively, the lumbar PostureFit pad supports your sacral region, and the tilt mechanism encourages micro-movement throughout the day. It's the chair you sit in.

The Embody is the chair that sits with you. The pixelated polymer back has 100+ articulating links that mimic your spine; the seat distributes pressure dynamically; and the design philosophy is all about 'health-positive' continuous adjustment. It's a chair to inhabit for an 8-hour deep-work session.

Comfort and use case

Aeron: best for moderate-to-heavy task work, mixed sit/stand offices, and shared desks where multiple people sit during the day. The mesh runs cool, the chair adjusts quickly, and it's robust to shared use.

Embody: best for deep individual focus — software engineering, design, writing, anything where you're in the chair 6+ hours uninterrupted. The Backfit and pixelated support are noticeably more comfortable for long sessions, but it warms slightly more than the Aeron's mesh and is less suited to hot-desking.

Durability — both are 12-year warranties

Both chairs ship with a 12-year warranty from Herman Miller. Both are designed for 24/7 environments and routinely last 15+ years in normal office use. The Aeron's pellicle does sag slightly over a decade of heavy use; the Embody's polymer back is essentially maintenance-free over its lifetime.

From a resale perspective, both are workhorses. We see Aerons from 2003 still functioning perfectly in 2026 and refurbing back to Grade A.

UK used buyback values

Aeron Classic (1994–2017): £180 per chair Grade A.

Aeron Remastered (2017+): £250 per chair Grade A.

Embody (any year): £200 per chair Grade A.

The Embody's relatively higher value despite being less iconic comes down to scarcity — Aerons sold in volume to corporate, Embodies sold to design-led clients in smaller batches. So the secondary supply is thinner. Logitech G-branded Embodies (the gamer-edition cyan and copper variants) are worth a small premium over standard.

Which should you sell?

If you're choosing — sell the Aerons if you have heavy task chairs you want to free up cash from. Aerons are easier to replace at the new-chair price point if needed (£1,400 RRP for a Remastered, currently in production).

If the Embodies are getting daily use by people who do focused work, keep them. They're harder to replace at lower price points; the Aeron remains broadly available used.
